Сarlsberg is a brand with a great history

The history of Carlsberg, one of the most recognizable and popular beer brands in the world, began in 1847, when Jacob Christian Jacobsen (J. C. Jacobsen) from Danemark laid the foundation of a small brewery not far away from Copenhagen (the capital of the country). He named his company after his only son Carl and because of the location of the brewery on a hill — Carlsberg means "Carl's hill" in Danish.

Launching the production, the founder of the company decided that Carlsberg products should contribute to upholding the global brewing industry at the proper level. Speaking abour Carlsberg, J. C. Jacobsen used to say: "The development of the art of brewing to the uppermost degree of perfection should be our ultimate goal, despite the profit".

Carlsberg beer has been produced since 1847. Since 1904, Carlsberg has been the established supplier of the Danish Royal Court.

As soon as in 1868, the export of Carlsberg beer started from a sample shipment to Edinburgh (Scotland). In 1869, beer samples were sent to West Indies and Asia. Carlsberg became one of the first beer brands exported all over the world. Today, Carlsberg beer is available in more than 140 countries across the globe.

The beverage from Danemark has been preferred by celebrities and top public officials, such as Queen Elizabeth II and Winston Churchill. Up to this day, Carlsberg has produced special beers for members of the royal families and the nobility.

J. C. Jacobsen understood the vital connection between natural sciences and industrial advancement very well. In 1875, he founded the Carlsberg Laboratory, an independent research facility that made a whole number of outstanding discoveries, and thus a great contribution to the development of the beverage industry. Over more than 130 years of its existance, the Carlsberg Laboratory has achieved remarkable progress in the scientific understanding of malting, brewing, and fermentation, as well as in broader scientific fields.
